India Develops Compact 200 MW Nuclear Reactors for Commercial Ships
India is advancing the development of compact 200 MW nuclear reactors, known as Bharat Small Modular Reactors (BSMR), designed for deployment on commercial ships. Engineered by the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), these reactors aim to enhance energy efficiency in maritime operations. The initiative aligns with India's goal to increase its nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047, up from the current 8.8 GW.
