India's Data Privacy Law Enters Phased Implementation

The Indian government has notified the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Rules 2025, initiating the phased rollout of the DPDP Act. A critical 18-month window is provided for companies, including social media and fintech firms, to overhaul their systems. The full law will mandate explicit consent for data processing, easy withdrawal mechanisms, and strict deletion of personal data when its purpose is fulfilled.
