India’s patent application filings rose 30% to 1.43 lakh in FY26, driven largely by the electronics and IT sector, which accounted for over half of all filings, according to MeitY Secretary S Krishnan. The government also launched the IP Catalyst initiative to support innovation commercialization and strengthen collaboration between startups, academia, industry, and research institutions, reflecting India’s rapidly growing technology and intellectual property ecosystem.
