Italy Reins in iCloud's Ecosystem Monopoly

Italy's antitrust authority has launched a probe into Apple for allegedly violating the EU’s Digital Markets Act. The regulator claims Apple disadvantages third-party cloud services by restricting their access to vital iOS and iPadOS features. Crucially, rivals appear blocked from performing full device data backups—a capability Apple exclusively reserves for iCloud. Findings from this first-of-its-kind national inquiry will be escalated to the European Commission.
