Jury Orders Google to Pay $425M for Violating Privacy Settings
A U.S. federal jury has ruled that Alphabet’s Google must pay $425 million in a class-action lawsuit for continuing to collect user data even after they disabled the “Web & App Activity” tracking feature. The verdict affects approximately 98 million users and 174 million devices, and found Google liable on two of three privacy violation claims—but without punitive damages due to lack of malice. Google plans to appeal the decision.
