Meta Acquires PlayAI to Power Next-Gen AI Voice Features
Meta has acquired PlayAI to enhance human-like voice AI, integrating PlayAI’s team—reporting to voice lead Johan Schalkwyk—into its operations. Specialising in multilingual voice cloning, real-time speech synthesis and programmable voice agents, PlayAI’s technology will be embedded in Quest VR headsets, Ray-Ban smart glasses, and exposed via developer APIs. Following its $14.3 billion ScaleAI acquisition, this deal fuels Meta’s Superintelligence Labs initiative reinforcing its strategic AI.
