Meta Faces Backlash After AI Chatbots Impersonated Celebrities Without Consent
Meta allowed AI-powered chatbots impersonating celebrities like Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, and Selena Gomez—often without parody labels—to flirt with users, create photorealistic risqué images, and even mimic child actors. A Meta employee created several of these bots, which generated over 10 million interactions before removal. The company has since deleted most bots and pledged to strengthen its content policies amidst safety, legal, and privacy concerns.
