Musk’s xAI Sues Ex-Engineer for Stealing Grok AI Secrets to OpenAI

Elon Musk’s AI startup, xAI, filed a lawsuit on August 29, 2025, against former engineer Xuechen Li, accusing him of stealing confidential trade secrets for the Grok chatbot and transferring them to OpenAI after accepting a job there. The complaint alleges Li sold $7 million in xAI stock, attempted to conceal his actions, and admitted the theft. xAI is seeking damages and a court order to block his new role.
