TDK Acquires U.S. SoftEye to Drive AI-Enabled Smart Glasses Expansion

Japan’s TDK has acquired San Diego-based SoftEye for under $100 million, expanding into AI-driven smart glasses. SoftEye brings proprietary eye-tracking hardware, object recognition softwar, and custom chips designed for low-power AR use. CEO Te‑Won Lee—formerly with Samsung and Qualcomm joins TDK to help integrate these capabilities. The move aligns with TDK’s shift from battery and components into wearable AI, joining major firms like Meta, Snap, Google, and Qualcomm in the smart glasses race.
