In 1966, MIT's Joseph Weizenbaum created Eliza, the world's first chatbot. Designed simply to mimic language, it shocked him when users instantly formed deep emotional attachments to the code. Weizenbaum spent the rest of his life warning that computers lack genuine empathy and should never replace human judgment or be trusted with tasks requiring wisdom.
