Understaffed 911 Dispatch Centers Turn to AI Voice Assistants

Facing severe staffing shortages and high turnover, 911 dispatch centers are adopting AI voice assistants like Aurelian to handle non-emergency calls—such as noise complaints and parking issues—so human operators can focus on critical emergencies. Launched in May 2024, Aurelian has already been deployed across more than a dozen U.S. centers. The AI tool effectively triages non-urgent calls and escalates real emergencies to human dispatchers.
