XChat Encrypted DMs Now Available to All X Users
X has expanded access to its encrypted direct messaging system, XChat, beyond premium members—making it available to more users starting September 4, 2025. Introduced in beta in May, XChat operates separately from standard DMs and includes end-to-end encryption, media attachments, group chats, pinned messages, and read/unread status markers.
