Tokenizing the Treasury: UK Bets Big on G7’s First Blockchain Bond

In a major bid to modernize its financial sector, the UK aims to become the first advanced G7 economy to issue a digital sovereign bond by early 2027. Finance Minister Rachel Reeves announced that the "Digital Gilt Instrument" pilot, hosted on HSBC's Orion blockchain platform, will test how tokenization can slash costs, speed up transaction settlements, and revolutionize wholesale financial markets.
