Apple Finds a New Way to Distinguish Real iPhone Photos From AI Images

Apple has introduced Apple Reference Image, a new feature for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max designed to verify photo authenticity. It creates an unalterable reference version of a photo using signed camera-sensor data, allowing users to compare it with edited versions. Apple says the feature could help photographers and journalists prove images are genuine as AI-generated and manipulated content becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish from real photos.
