Cluely CEO: Viral Hype Alone Fails Without Product-Market Fit

Roy Lee, founder of the AI startup Cluely, which famously raised $15 million partly through provocative, viral marketing, conceded that hype is not enough. While controversial tactics secured massive visibility and funding, the company had to pivot from its initial tool to an AI meeting assistant. Lee stresses that virality is only useful if the product is good enough to make users stay for long-term, sustainable growth.
