OpenAI Has No Plans to Scale Google’s TPUs, Sticks with Nvidia & AMD

OpenAI confirmed it’s testing Google’s Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) but has no plans to deploy them at scale. Instead, it will continue relying primarily on Nvidia and AMD chips, supplemented by GPU servers via CoreWeave. The company is also developing its own custom AI chip, aiming for a tape‑out later this year. Despite partnering with Google Cloud for capacity, large‑scale TPU use remains off the table.
