AMD Warns of $800 Million Loss Due to New U.S. Export Restrictions on AI Chips to China

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) anticipates up to $800 million in losses following new U.S. export controls that restrict the sale of its MI308 graphics processing units (GPUs) to China. These GPUs are designed for high-performance applications, including artificial intelligence and gaming. The projected financial impact stems from inventory write-downs, purchase commitments & related reserves. While AMD plans to apply for export licenses, the company acknowledges there is no assurance of approval.
