Australia Pushes Forward With Ghost Shark XL-AUV Fleet as U.S. Uncrewed Languish

Australia has awarded a A$1.7 billion (~US$1.1 billion) contract to Anduril to deploy a fleet of Ghost Shark extra-large autonomous undersea vehicles (XL-AUVs) by early 2026. The five-year deal covers delivery, maintenance, and further R&D. In contrast, similar U.S. programs—such as Boeing’s Orca project—remain delayed. Australia and Anduril moved from prototype to production faster, co-funding and co-developing Ghost Shark.
