Data In The Cloud: Google Buys Defunct Spirit Airlines’ Internal Data to Fuel Its AI Models

Google is acquiring the internal business data of bankrupt Spirit Airlines for $10 million following a court-supervised auction. Outbidding AI data firm Mercor's $7.5M offer, Google plans to use the asset to train AI models and improve products. The dataset includes employee emails, Teams chats, spreadsheets, and operational files. All personally identifiable information and customer records are strictly excluded and scrubbed before transfer.
