European Research Collaborations with China Halted Over Ambiguous Data Laws

Major European research funding agencies, including the German Research Foundation, Swedish Research Council, and Swiss National Science Foundation, have suspended joint projects with China's National Natural Science Foundation due to concerns over China's Data Security Law. The law, enacted in 2021, restricts sharing "important data" abroad without government approval, but lacks clear definitions.
