FAA Plans $875M AI System to Modernize Air Traffic Management

The FAA plans to deploy SMART, an $875 million AI-powered platform designed to help air traffic controllers manage workflows and identify potential flight conflicts. The system will analyze airline schedules, weather, airport capacity and airspace conditions. It will initially launch in the Washington, D.C. area before expanding nationwide, with the contract spanning 12 years.
