Forex Buffer Surge: South Korea Absorbs $20B SK Hynix Cash Windfall

South Korea's foreign exchange authorities purchased approximately $20 billion in U.S. dollars repatriated by memory chipmaker SK Hynix. The massive dollar influx followed the firm's $26.5 billion American depositary receipt (ADR) listing in July. By absorbing the funds into state reserves, authorities stepped in to absorb market volatility and prevent a sudden, destabilizing surge in the value of the Korean won.
