Microsoft Earns $10 Billion From OpenAI in a Single Quarter, Highlighting Their Financial Dependence

Microsoft reported $10 billion in revenue from its commercial arrangements with OpenAI for the quarter ending September 30, 2026, accounting for nearly 11% of its total quarterly revenue of $92.3 billion. The figure includes revenue-sharing payments and Azure cloud services. Microsoft also reported $7.2 billion in outstanding receivables from OpenAI. Despite expanding competition and OpenAI’s freedom to use other cloud providers, their financial partnership remains substantial.
