OpenAI to Spend $100B on Backup Servers Over Five Years to Secure AI Infrastructure
OpenAI plans to invest about $100 billion over the next five years renting backup servers from cloud providers. This is on top of a $350 billion commitment already projected for cloud services through 2030. The additional capacity aims to handle usage spikes, ensure uptime, and support reliability. With this, OpenAI’s annual average for server rentals is expected to hit around $85 billion per year.
