Sharper Focus: Sony Bids $1.3B to Turn Lens Maker Tamron Into a Subsidiary

Sony Group has submitted a non-binding proposal estimated at $1.3 billion (200 billion yen) to acquire Japanese camera lens manufacturer Tamron and turn it into a wholly owned subsidiary. Sony already holds a 14.7% stake in Tamron. Tamron has formed a special committee to review the offer, which aims to strengthen Sony’s dominant position in digital imaging and optics.
