Silicon Valley Shocker: Meta Axes Engineers and Managers to Fund AI

Driven by heavy AI investments, Meta recently eliminated 8,000 jobs, with over half concentrated in California and Washington. The layoffs heavily targeted traditional tech strongholds: middle managers—especially software engineering managers—took the hardest hit, accounting for nearly one-third of the cuts. Individual software engineers and data scientists were also heavily affected as CEO Mark Zuckerberg moves toward leaner teams, eliminating "managers managing managers."
