UK Launches £187M ‘TechFirst’ AI Skills Initiative to Train Workers and Students

The UK government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has unveiled a major AI upskilling campaign under its “TechFirst” programme. This initiative allocates £187 million (≈$253 million) to equip one million secondary school students and train 7.5 million workers in AI and LLM usage—via partnerships with tech giants Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and chipmaker NVIDIA. The drive aims to cement the UK’s leadership in AI, a sector currently valued at £72 billion and growing rapidly.
