UPI Transaction Value Drops ₹2,500 Crore in August After Real-Money Gaming Ban

The Centre’s ban on online real-money gaming (RMG) triggered a sharp decline of ₹2,500 crore in UPI transaction value in August, reducing activity from over ₹10,076 crore in July to ₹7,441 crore—or a 25% monthly drop—in just nine days post-ban. Still, RMG constitutes only around 0.5% of UPI’s monthly value, highlighting UPI’s resilience as a key digital payments platform.
