Meta Datacenter Flushed with Rare Bacterial Contamination

Cheyenne, Wyoming officials traced a rare bacterial contamination (Cupriavidus gilardii) at two water reclamation plants to a contractor cleaning Meta’s data center cooling system. The months-long cleanup forced the facilities offline. In response, the city’s Board of Public Utilities has permanently banned all industrial wastewater discharged from closed-loop data center cooling systems into municipal sewers.
