Game Over for Discs: The End of Physical Gaming Ownership

The gaming industry is officially phasing out physical media. Rockstar Games announced that GTA VI will release as a digital-only title, offering "boxed copies" with just download codes. Meanwhile, Sony announced that PlayStation will completely discontinue manufacturing physical game discs by January 2028. This rapid shift to digital-only storefronts marks the end of an era for game lending, trading, and long-term physical ownership.
