Stricter US Green Card Rules: Public Charge Test & Bond Requirements Ahead

Starting September 18, 2026, USCIS will enforce stricter Green Card regulations by expanding the "public charge" evaluation. Officials will assess applicants' age, skills, and broader public benefit usage, including housing assistance and food stamps. In borderline cases, USCIS may require applicants to post a financial bond using Form I-945 to ensure self-sufficiency and avoid dependence on public funds.
