Amazon Suspends Engineer After Internal Letter Criticizing Ties with Israel

Ahmed Shahrour, a Palestinian software engineer in Amazon’s Whole Foods division, was suspended (with pay) after sending an internal letter to CEO Andy Jassy and posting on Slack channels criticizing Amazon’s involvement in Project Nimbus, a $1.2B cloud contract with the Israeli government. He accused the company of silencing pro-Palestinian voices, deleting his statements, and violating policy.
