Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, through his firm Oyster Ocean, plans to acquire Metalships & Docks in Vigo, Spain. Despite the industrial shipyard generating roughly $10 million annually—less than the operating cost of his $159 million superyacht, Whisper—the move provides critical waterfront infrastructure to build and maintain specialized oceanographic research vessels and explorer yachts for his non-profit, the Schmidt Ocean Institute.
