India's New Deepfake Law Spurs Tech Giants' AI Label Review

India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has released draft amendments to curb deepfakes, mandating that all social media users and tech firms must declare and label AI-generated or modified content. Global technology giants, including Microsoft, Google, and OpenAI, are now reviewing the new mandate. Officials stressed the rules apply to all computer resources creating synthetic content, directing platforms to use technology for verification.
