A peer-reviewed study in the British Medical Journal reveals Australia’s world-first under-16 social media ban has had virtually no early impact on teenage scrolling habits. Researchers found that over 85% of underage users continue to easily access restricted platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Most simply bypassed the weak, self-declared age checks using their own accounts, fake profiles, or shared logins.
