BYD Moves Solid-State EV Batteries Closer to the Road With a 2027 Vehicle Demonstration

BYD plans to put a vehicle using its solid-state battery technology on the road in 2027, according to executive vice president Stella Li. The move would be a technology demonstration rather than a mass-market launch. BYD is developing sulfide-based batteries, with prototypes targeting around 400 Wh/kg energy density. Large-scale commercial production is currently targeted around 2030, subject to manufacturing and durability challenges.
