China Advises Firms to Shun Nvidia H20 Chips Amid Security & Self-Reliance Push

China has formally advised domestic companies—especially those involved in government or national security projects—to avoid using Nvidia’s H20 AI processors, citing security concerns and encouraging use of domestic alternatives. The guidance comes despite Nvidia denying any “backdoors” in the chips. This advisory challenges recent U.S.-brokered export deals allowing H20 sales in China and reflects Beijing’s strategic move to reduce reliance on U.S. AI technology.
