Ericsson Bets on Custom Silicon Over Nvidia GPUs

Ericsson CEO Per Narvinger defended the company's use of custom ASICs over Nvidia GPUs for Layer 1 Radio Access Network (RAN) workloads. Calling custom silicon an "extraordinary asset," Narvinger highlighted its superior cost-competitiveness, faster feature deployment on existing hardware, and speed advantages over general-purpose GPUs, while maintaining that the company remains flexible to adapt if market needs shift.
