Indonesian Startup Recoolit Captures Potent HFC Coolants to Combat Climate Change

Recoolit, founded in 2021, tackles potent HFC refrigerant emissions in Indonesia by capturing leakage from AC systems—technicians earn ~$3 per kg collected. The recovered gases, thousands of times stronger than CO₂, are destroyed in cement kilns or incinerators. Recoolit issues verified carbon credits at $75/unit and counts Google among its partners, aiming to scale and close a critical climate gap amid weak regulatory enforcement.
