NASA and IBM have unveiled Surya, an AI-powered digital twin of the Sun, trained on nine years of high-resolution data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory. Surya can forecast solar flares up to two hours in advance, offering a 16% boost in prediction accuracy compared to traditional models. Open-sourced on platforms like Hugging Face, Surya empowers global researchers to enhance space weather forecasting, safeguarding satellites, power grids, and communications infrastructure.
