New "PhantomRPC" Vulnerability Exposes All Windows Versions to Privilege Escalation

Security researchers have uncovered "PhantomRPC," a critical architectural flaw in the Windows Remote Procedure Call (RPC) runtime affecting every version of the OS. By exploiting how Windows handles connections to unavailable servers, attackers can intercept privileged calls to gain SYSTEM-level access. Despite being presented at Black Hat Asia 2026, the vulnerability remains unpatched.
