Tech Realpolitik: South Korean Chip Giants Turn to Chinese Tools to Dodge US Sanctions

South Korean memory chipmakers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have been testing chipmaking equipment from Shanghai-based AMEC for their Chinese factories. Initiated as a strategic hedge against tightening US export controls, the trials provide a backup plan to maintain and repair existing production lines if Washington further restricts access or maintenance parts for Western tools, marking a major milestone for China's domestic chip-equipment industry.
