Ericsson has launched a new 5G-based drone detection system that transforms existing mobile network cell sites into wide-area security sensors. Utilizing AI, edge computing, and radio signal analysis, the technology tracks low-flying, unauthorized drones to boost public safety and critical infrastructure protection. Small-scale commercial pilots are set for 2027, with broader deployments slated for 2028.
