U.S. Eyes 1:1 Chip-Production Mandate to Slash Overseas Dependence

The United States is proposing a new “1:1 chip production” rule forcing semiconductor firms to manufacture domestically as many chips as their customers import, or face steep tariffs. Under the plan, companies that commit to U.S. production could be granted import exemptions while building capacity. The move aims to secure supply chains and reduce reliance on foreign chip sources.
