China’s new "LineShine" system has captured the top spot on the global TOP500 supercomputer list, dethroning the US-based El Capitan. Built with a unique domestic, CPU-only architecture to bypass Western chip sanctions, LineShine excels at classic scientific simulations. However, because it deliberately lacks the high-density graphics processing units (GPUs) favored by modern tech firms, experts note it is not built for heavy AI workloads.
