Surging Data Centre Demand Leaves Malaysia Facing a 9 GW Energy Gap

Malaysia’s booming data centre sector and rising temperatures are driving a sharp increase in electricity demand. Data centres could account for up to 31% of Peninsular Malaysia’s power consumption by 2035, prompting plans to add 9 GW of gas-fired capacity by 2032 as the country gradually phases out coal power.
