US lawmaker Chip Roy has introduced the "American White-Collar Worker Jobs Act of 2026." The proposed legislation aims to protect domestic STEM professionals by completely eliminating the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program and blocking H-1B visas from serving as a pathway to permanent residency (Green Cards). Additionally, it seeks to replace the current H-1B lottery system with a wage-based selection process and bans companies with recent layoffs from hiring foreign tech workers.
