Guardrails for Calls and Connections: TRAI Proposes Strict AI Accountability Framework for Telecom Giants

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has unveiled a draft framework requiring telecom operators to set up dedicated AI safety committees, enforce strict human oversight, and maintain comprehensive system inventories. Under the proposed rules, operators will be held directly accountable for third-party AI failures and mandated to report critical security or operational incidents to the regulator to safeguard consumer interests.
