Newly published research highlights how a palm-sized, shape-shifting robot named LEV-2 (Sora-Q) solved a major lunar mystery for Japan’s space agency, JAXA. Developed using commercial toy technology, the baseball-sized rover transformed into a wheeled vehicle after deployment. It crawled across the lunar surface and captured a historic photograph revealing that the SLIM spacecraft had landed upside down, explaining why its solar panels failed to generate sufficient power.
