Australia’s ACCC Slaps Google with A$55M Fine for Anti-Competitive Search Deals with Telcos
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has taken legal action against Google over exclusive pre-installation deals with Telstra and Optus, which limited consumer search options between December 2019 and March 2021. Google admitted liability and agreed to pay a A$55 million (~US$35.8 million) fine. The company also committed to removing default search engine restrictions from future telecom and device agreements, paving the way for greater competition and consumer choice.
